EDITORIAL

As you can guess by the fact that this issue of the E-Journal is a little later than normal, things are a little hectic here. For the first time since I started Web Mastering this site I have found myself in full time employment at the same time as I have a Journal to edit! Everything has to be done at night and weekends, rather than in the day. I was fortunate to get some articles early, so that I could edit them early. However, when it comes to the stuff I put together I am like most writers in waiting till the deadline looms! Anyway, it is here now. There are a few new, (and not so new), names amongst the contributors. I am indebted to Ken Ross in passing some stuff over from his various sources.

First and foremost, ICPUGSE celebrated their 20th anniversary recently and we have a little article on the club's history. I do not know whether Coventry, or myself in Stevenage will be next to break open the champagne. If it is Coventry, I want an article Will!

Ken's regular contribution discusses his trials and tribulations with BT Surftime and altering Big File Reader to work on the C64. That reminds me. With 'Free' ISPs disappearing like ninepins the table I put in the last E-Journal is getting out of date! Use with care.

Instead of looking at Microsoft v. DOJ this time I have tried to bring together various bits and pieces which indicate where Microsoft are going.

Gavin Haines, a name from the paper days, gives us his setup instructions for using Eudora with multiple ISPs.

Next comes a writer from across the pond, Robert Bernardo. I found his article hard to edit, but fascinating to read how SID music is still popular and the unlikely places it turns up.

My contributions are completed with more humour and a miscellany of snippets including the latest from Amiga.

Before going this time I want to ask if Rick Maybury reads this Journal!. Rick writes a 'how-to' column for the dotcom.telegraph. His articles are good, but I usually find them a bit basic for me. Suddenly, around the time of the last E-Journal he wrote a couple of articles which went beyond the basics. He discussed the Windows Registry and reproduced my method exactly for cleaning the Desktop of all icons. Now I created this myself as I had never seen my particular approach mentioned elsewhere. It may just be serendipity that two people came to write the same thing at the same time, but if you are reading this Rick - send me an e-mail!

Deadline for the next issue is 21st September 2000.
