WEBMASTER'S WAFFLE
by Brian Grainger
trainee webmaster for
Bill Ritchie:
Last time I had anticipated that Bill Ritchie would be writing this by now. However, Bill has found that sorting out his new abode, together with getting to grips with his new assignment has meant there has been little time left for accessing the Internet, let alone web mastering the site. The plan is for me to continue to look after the site at present.
I have now completed the task of checking out all links on the Software and Java Links page. I have deleted all those that were no longer appropriate and all links left should now work.
Back in the days of the paper journal Bill had mentioned that this web site needed an overhaul. When he went away this got sidelined. Over the past few months I have noticed that while the site structure is quite good for the journal type operation so far it is not so good for viewing as a source of reference. I have discussed some ideas with Bill and he has agreed with them and given me his blessing to implement changes as I see fit. Over the next few months I plan to start doing this. Changes will be made in the background and will be brought to the surfer's attention only when they are completed.
There will continue to be a bi-monthly journal which presents current topical items. As it is difficult to go back and find things in previous issues it is planned to move appropriate articles to a reference storage area with suitable indexing and linking. The journals themselves will probably not be kept on-line for much longer than a year. I'll let you know in good time before I start removing them.
As always, I would welcome any comments on how the ICPUG site can be improved.
Brian
