Welcome to the ICPUG Phoenix site! It was sad to read the last paper newsletter. I do not like seeing friends go, never to be heard of again. It was disappointing to read the views that ICPUG and user groups no longer have a purpose. If this is true why are the ICPUG: Coventry, Maidenhead, Stevenage, Stoke-On-Trent and, especially, South- East Regional Groups still running!
Well, I prefer to adapt with the times. As Joe said I used to retain copyright on my material but that was to ensure it was not pirated and subsequently deprive ICPUG of members. To do so now would only deprive those people I have tried to serve - my readers. I believe in this glittery bauble (as described by Tim Arnot) of the Web because it enriches my life with, amongst other things, Amiga information at www.amiga.com (Thanks Tim for that information. You believe in the glittery bauble as well!). This Phoenix site may turn out to be as successful as a Commodore resurrection but I can say I tried.
At the moment this e-journal is very much of the same format as the old paper newsletter. We have contributions from regulars with Bill Ritchie informing us about the latest breed of communication satellites, Iridium, Alan Crease continuing his series on the hardware scene and Ken Ross telling us his latest escapades. We have a newcomer, Francis Townsend, relating the experience of getting started on the net. Finally, you have me, writing this time about my current thoughts concerning Microsoft and how the best of us cannot get it right when buying things.
The web is a different medium from paper and over time I would expect this e-journal to adapt to make best use of it. As ever the development is in the hands of those who contribute. Please e-mail me your submissions for the next issue by March 11th. The format can be standard e-mail or Word 6 or ASCII attachment. Our aim will be to put e-journal 2 on the web at the beginning of April. Let's have some 'Readers E-Mail' as well. Comments will be welcome and your problems especially so. Even if we cannot find the answer they can be put on display and a reader may be able to help you out.
