STAR OFFICE HITS THE RETAIL MARKET |

At last - Open Source based software comes bundled with new PCs. I saw an advertisement in my paper today for some new computers from Tiny. They come complete with the full Star Office v. 5.2 for Windows package. Star Office is the package that is now owned by Sun and is supplied free of charge. It is based on source code that has been released as Open Source. Star Office is the package that competes with Microsoft Office. I am pleased to see this software finally made available via the retail market. It is rather unfortunate that it appears on Tiny PCs though. Tiny have never had a really great reputation. In fact Tiny have recently been bought by Time computers and a move to rationalise the shops of both groups will start soon. Perhaps that is why the advert says, 'Monster Deals - Must End Soon!'. They mean it folks! |
