NOTE ABOUT APPLEONLINE

Gavin Haines

Appleonline has been told by Apple that it can't use the name "Apple", so all email accounts with that ISP have had to be renamed "macunlimited". However, if you rename your account "macunlimited", it is actually a separate mailbox. "appleonline.net" email addresses will continue to work until 30th Oct 2002. Any webspace you had under "appleonline" will vanish into the ether at that date.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM APPLEONLINE

An important message from AppleOnline

Apple Computer and AppleOnline have amicably resolved the issue of AppleOnline's use of the trade mark "Apple" in its business name. As a result, AppleOnline is being renamed MacUnlimited.

This change of name is purely an administrative issue. We will continue to offer the same level of service and commitment under the name of MacUnlimited, and plans for exciting new services are pressing ahead.

What does our change of name mean for you?

Business Customers:

If you are a hosting customer, you don't need to do anything. Your site and email will continue to function as normal, without disruption.

Dialup Customers:

If you are accessing the Internet via our dialup numbers (modem and ISDN), then you don't need to worry. We have entered your user name and password into our new system. All the telephone numbers, your user name and password remain the same. Your dialup access to the Internet is not affected in any way.

Email addresses:

We have automatically created a new email address for you under our new name. If your email address is johnsmith@appleonline.net, you can now use johnsmith@macunlimited.net - it's available to you right now, with the same password you're accustomed to using.

Your AppleOnline email account will remain active for another 12 months (until 30 October 2002), which gives you plenty of time to tell friends and colleagues. If you are registered for any newsgroups, mailing lists, etc., under your AppleOnline email address, you should amend these to use your MacUnlimited address instead. We recommend that you do this as soon as you can, just in case there is any delay in the changes being processed.

We highly encourage you to start using the MacUnlimited account and let people know you've changed, as soon as you can, because all AppleOnline accounts will eventually be discontinued.

You can access your messages through our Webmail service as well, at our new Website, http://www.macunlimited.net/. (Be aware, though, that Webmail is not designed to be used as your main email service - inbox space is very limited, and new messages cannot be received once your inbox is full. It is preferable to use email software such as Microsoft Outlook Express or Mac OS X's Mail program - advice on these can be found on our Support pages at http://www.macunlimited.net/support/.)

You can also access messages sent to your AppleOnline address via the Web, at http://webmail.appleonline.net/. Remember, though, all AppleOnline accounts will be discontinued, so we encourage you to switch to your new MacUnlimited account instead.

Webspace:

If you have a Webspace account, then please note that we will create a new Webspace account for you under the MacUnlimited name upon request. If your account was www.appleonline.net/johnsmith, then your new Webspace account will be www.johnsmith.macunlimited.net.

We warmly invite you to contact us to request your new MacUnlimited Webspace account.

If you have any problems, please contact our tech support team on 08707 44 44 11 and we'll do our best to sort them out. We'll also post answers to common questions on our Website.

We hope to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone, so if there's any way we can help, please let us know!
Best wishes,
The MacUnlimited team.
